Unplag Released A New User-Interface and Commenting Feature for Canvas Users

The Unplag team announced the release of a new user-interface with updated plagiarism report and commenting feature, so that educators using Canvas can leave their feedback on student submissions.

Unplag (unplag.com), a cloud-based similarities finder designed to help educators and students resist plagiarism, has recently updated its user-interface including plagiarism report as well as added a possibility to comment on student assignments for all educators using Canvas.

After each student assignment is checked with Unplag, an educator receives a report with a percentage of citations and references found and a list of sources used by students. This way educators can evaluate the quality of the research carried out by students in a matter of minutes. When citations and references are omitted from the report, a similarity and originality percentage is immediately updated. Thanks to the exclusion option, educators can figure out what is a student contribution amount. For educators to be able to navigate reports with ease, Unplag highlights citations in blue, references in purple and similarities in yellow.

"We keep on asking educators using Unplag about the features they might need to simplify their interaction with students", said Anastasia Parokha, CEO at Unplag. "Once we get this valuable feedback, our team of developers starts working on the Unplag functionality enhancement. Thus, a commenting feature has been released. It allows teachers and professors share their advice with students or explain why particular parts of their assignments need improving."

Once a commenting feature is enabled, educators can add their feedback to any part of the text, edit or remove it, whereas students will be able to open it in the read-only mode and get notified of the newly created comments.

In addition to the features mentioned above, Unplag also supports a SpeedGrader mode available in Canvas. After student submissions are checked with Unplag, educators can browse and grade them right in the SpeedGrader menu, which is very convenient.

More Unplag system updates are to be released this year too. One of them is a significant improvement of the similarities search algorithm.
