Unplag Summed Up Its Scholarship Results: Three Winners' Names are Revealed

The Unplag team announced the names of three winners in the $2,000 Student Scholarship from Unplag.

Unplag, a plagiarism checker developed to help educators and students timely find and prevent plagiarism in writings, revealed the names of three scholarship winners on March 9, 2016. The main winner will be awarded $2,000 to cover educational costs, while two more runner-ups will get access to their individual accounts with annual amount of similarity checks at unplag.com.

The Student Scholarship from Unplag was launched on September 1, 2015 to make students worldwide think of the cause and effect of academic plagiarism and encourage them to write originally. To apply for the scholarship, each student was supposed to submit a creative and unique 500-word essay. Not to limit ideas flow of the applicants, the Unplag team decided to avoid setting strict essay requirements. Instead, all the participants were encouraged to come up with their own plagiarism related topics and individual essay structures.

The essay selection process was made up of two stages. First, the works with well-grounded statements without spelling and grammar mistakes were published on the Unplag blog. During the second stage, the Unplag expert committee determined three best written essays taking into account inventive approach used by the applicants.

"Since our project is closely tied to the academic plagiarism prevention, we decided to initiate an essay scholarship contest and draw students' attention to plagiarism in academia," said Anastasia Parokha, CEO at Unplag. "We aimed at motivating students to write original essays not being afraid of showing their writing voice. The total amount of essays received was about 500. With so many plagiarism-free submissions, I dare say that we achieved our goal."

The Unplag team has also initiated a number of other pro-bono projects to support the idea of turning original writing into a trend. Thus, Unplag became an official partner of University of the People enabling its students to check across the Internet sources with no sign up fees.
